Blurb reads:
No book similar to this has hitherto been written. It opens up a new field in local heraldry and genealogy. It is by a well-known antiquary who has devoted many years to the study of armorial stained glass, and he now gives the fruit of his research carried out in the parish churches in the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire which comprise the Diocese of Oxford.
Not only does the author tel us where this priceless heritage can be found, but he provides a wealth of information on the technique of its manufacture, together with genealogical evidence for the presence of the coats of arms of those represented by the glass.
Serious students of heraldry, the local historian and those who, in increasing numbers, are deriving pleasure and delight in visiting our parish churches, will find that the author gives a clear description of the armorial glass remaining in the diocese dating from about 1250 to 1850. The 65 pages of photographs have been specially taken not only for the purpose of assisting the reader to appreciate the evolution of the art of the glass painter, but also to provide heraldic evidence for the descent of local manors and the family history of their successive owners.
The pictures and text of this book will also serve as a prototype for an efficient method of recording the armorial and genealogical evidence in other dioceses throughout the country.
